Department Activities
Reading History in a Century-Old Building
Founded in 1968, the department is housed in a building that once served as barracks for the Japanese army during the period of Japanese rule. We are the only history department in Taiwan with a century-old building of our own, and the building itself is a living historical text.
Our research spans Taiwan, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and public history. With Tainan, Taiwan's historic capital, as our starting point, we train humanities scholars with an international outlook.
For more than half a century, from the bachelor's to the doctoral level, this building has sent generations of graduates into academia, cultural institutions, and public service.
Research Clusters
Study History in a Century-Old Building
From the bachelor's to the master's and doctoral programs, we offer complete training in history, with Tainan as our classroom and the world as our horizon.
